When I'm new to a company, how can I make an impression?

1. Get to know people you'd never meet otherwise

You will have a better understanding of your firm and its culture by getting to know coworkers outside of your core team. Invite someone out for coffee or walk around the workplace formally introducing yourself to coworkers you haven't met before. Respect people' time while being pleasant and making an effort to learn their names.

You'll gain information and insight into the company as you get to know individuals, and you'll make progress in growing your own network as well. I'm a great believer in networking, and I think internal networking is equally as vital as going to out-of-office activities.

2. Acquire a thorough understanding of company procedures.

When you're a new employee, it might be difficult to come up to speed, so consider this time as extra time. Because you won't be doing any real work, you'll have more time to learn new methods, organise your inbox, and prepare for what's to come.

This is the ideal time to learn about the company's procedures and policies. See if there's any study and reading you can do as a first-year attorney to help you prepare for the first task that comes your way.

3. Look for a worthwhile project to lead and try to complete it.

Using what you've learned from the preceding ideas to start an endeavour that will enhance an area that could require streamlining is one of the most direct ways to display ambition.

In some professions, this will entail producing a proposal and obtaining permission; in others, it may entail creating a new report from scratch. Can you, in your position, do a thorough dive into the firm's previous work? Keep in mind that any project or endeavour you select should be one you can put aside and come back to when the time comes—and it will!—when you're completely swamped with work.

This is a good time to focus on topics you're usually too busy for, but keep in mind that they are only suggestions. It's natural to feel uneasy in a new position while learning the ropes and attempting to build a name for yourself, but know that you're not alone.

Try not to overthink it
You were recruited for a purpose, and you'll get your chance to demonstrate to everyone how valuable you are to the team sooner or later.

Best of luck to you
